Depth of Field
In 2016, we at Yuanjin Photo and visual editor David M. Barreda launched “Depth of Field,” a column that highlights the new and newsworthy photojournalism published in Chinese media by Chinese photographers. For each column, we choose one image from each featured body of work, describe the project, and provide a link to the original piece. The aim is to provide a fresh and nuanced look at contemporary China through the perspective of Chinese.
The column is published quarterly on ChinaFile, a digital magazine published by the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society in New York. It is syndicated on Witness, a magazine by World Press Photo Foundation for new thinking and new talent in visual journalism and storytelling. A Chinese version of the column is published on 远近摄影手记, Yuanjin Photo’s WeChat blog.
